Say Less
Meet Quincy Isaiah, an 18-year-old R&B recording artist whose talent and charisma are setting the stage for a new era in the genre. When conceptualizing the visual accompaniment for his latest single "Say Less," our team sought to evoke the timeless elegance and minimalist allure of old Calvin Klein ads from the 90s. Our goal was to create a visual piece that not only highlighted the story within the song but also showcased the magnetic presence of Quincy Isaiah and his co-star.
"Say Less" tells a compelling narrative of subtlety and unspoken attraction. The music video meticulously follows this narrative, depicting Quincy interacting with his co-star as she navigates a conversation with her current boyfriend on the phone. The story unfolds with a delicate balance of tension and playfulness, capturing the essence of the song's lyrics and mood.
From the outset, Quincy Isaiah's performance draws the viewer into a world where every glance and gesture speaks volumes. The visual style, inspired by the clean lines and understated elegance of 90s Calvin Klein campaigns, serves to amplify the emotional depth of the interactions between Quincy and his co-star. The video's aesthetic choices, from lighting to wardrobe, are designed to highlight the raw, authentic appeal of the young artist.
As the video progresses, the narrative builds towards a moment of connection. Quincy Isaiah's efforts to capture his co-star's attention are subtly conveyed through a series of interactions that become increasingly playful. By the video's end, the chemistry between them is undeniable, culminating in a moment that feels both inevitable and satisfying.
In my role as the director of the video, I had the privilege of shaping the visual and narrative direction of "Say Less." Collaborating closely with my Director of Photography, Chris Morsby, we developed a storyboard that stayed true to our vision of simplicity and emotional resonance. Drawing from the influential works of past advertising greats, we aimed to create a piece that felt both contemporary and nostalgic.
Our approach to the "Say Less" video was holistic, ensuring that every visual element was in harmony with the music. This attention to detail extended to the co-writing and production of the track, allowing us to present a unified artistic expression that fully encapsulates Quincy Isaiah's style and message.
Overall, I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished with Quincy Isaiah's "Say Less." Through dedication, creativity, and a clear vision, we have produced a music video that not only enhances the song but also introduces Quincy Isaiah as a formidable talent in the R&B landscape. By blending classic aesthetics with modern storytelling, we have created a piece that stands out in today's music industry, much like the artist himself.
